Remember, divers aren't just interested in diveshops! They all need somewhere to sleep, eat and some have even been known to drink beer! Adverts don't need to be large, complicated, or even contain any words. In fact, some of the best adverts are just visual cues, such as a bright colour, pattern or symbol (just look at the divegenie logo!).
General description of advertising:
- All of the grey-gridded areas throughout the website are available for advertising.
- Advertising starts at just £50 (or $80 U.S.) for 12 months.
- Two types of advert are available: forecast page adverts and front page adverts.
- Hovering the mouse over your advert will display a short description of your business.
- Cliicking on your advert will take the user directly to your business's website or email address.
- The number of viewings that your advert receives is logged and can be viewed at any time on our advert stats page.
- There is a searchable index of advertisers that users can access, which is region-specific.
The two types of adverts are:
| 1. Forecast page adverts: You can target your audience in a local region by placing your advert on a particular region's forecast pages. (e.g. here is an example forecast page). This means that every time someone checks the region's conditions they will see your advert. This option would be ideal if your business is located within the chosen region (including restaurants, accommodation, dive shops and dive boats). Forecast page adverts are a fixed size of 100 x 50 pixels and cost just £50 (or $80 U.S.) for 12 months. An example advert is shown to the right. | 2. Front page adverts: To target a larger audience you can place your advert on the divegenie.com front page. This is an excellent way of increasing the exposure of your business: your advert will be seen by everyone visiting divegenie.com. Front page adverts are sold in 10 x 10 pixel blocks up to a maximum size. Each block costs £25 (or $40 U.S.) for 12 months. An example advert and its equivalent size in blocks is shown to the right. - Read the terms and conditions
- Decide on a type of advert (e.g. forecast page advert or front page advert ?).
- Create your image, ensuring that it is the correct size and file type (see our terms and conditions). If this is problematic then we can help - just email us
- Calculate the price of your advert.
- Use the appropriate paypal link below to pay for the advert. All payments are secure and you can choose to pay in either U.S. dollars ($) or U.K. pounds sterling (£). If you are paying for a front page advert then you will have to fill in the total amount.
- Then simply send us an email containing:
- The name of your business and a contact name, email and telephone number.
- The short description of your business that you would like to appear when a user's mouse hovers over your advert (maximum of 30 characters).
- The type of advert you would like (forecast page or front page)
- Attach your advert image.
- Then wait for a reply email from divegenie to confirm that everything is correct.
- Once all checks have been completed and all funds cleared, then your advert will appear within 48 hours.

1. What is needed for an advert on divegenie ? All that is needed for an advert is a small image to draw the attention of the user, a website link (or an email address) and a brief description describing the services that your business can provide. This description will appear when the mouse cursor hovers over your advert and need only be a short sentence. The website link (or email address) is provided to the user when they click on your advert (e.g. providea a direct link straight to your website). Please see the instructions above on how to place an order.
2. I don't have an image to use as an advert, what should I do? We are happy to help. If you have an image that isn't quite the right shape or size, or if you are unsure about how to begin then just email us. The image doesn't have to be complicated, in fact, quite often the simpler the design, the more striking it is. There are many free image creation tools available for download from the web. Some operating systems such as Windows come with a free image creation tool already installed.
3. How will I know if people are seeing my advert ? If you choose to advertise on a forecast page, everytime someone views the region's forecast, or the updates for a particular site within that forecast, then they will see your advert. This is logged and you can see how many times your advert has been seen by looking at our advert stats page. For instance, if your advert is placed on the Cornwall region page, then people will see your advert everytime they check the conditions of their favourite dive site, or when they look at the vis maps. If you choose to advertise on the front page then your advert will be seen whenever someone loads the website. We collate statistics for each advert that appears on divegenie so it is easy for you to see how often people see your advert. Selecting the advert stats page (a link appears on the menu at the top of every page) displays a table of all of the adverts on divegenie. Each advert has a view count and a last view date and time. The view count is the total number of times that your advert has been viewed by a visitor. The date and time correspond to the date and time of the last view.
4. Why would I advertise on divegenie ? divegenie is the only website providing daily dive condition updates. People viewing a region for conditions (for example to dive at the weekend or during a holiday) are likely to also require services such as accommodation, guides, courses, places to eat, equipment etc so your advert is reaching your potential customer base. We can provide data for sites all over the world meaning that your advert will reach a global audience, ideal if you are a global brand trying to increase brand exposure or a local business who can provide services that would be useful for a diver or snorkerller.
5. I only have a small business, surely advertising is expensive ? Not at all, we can taylor a package to suit your needs, advertising can cost from just £50 for the year, based on advertising in a single forecast page. (please see the adverts at the top of this page)
6. How can I pay for my advert ? For payments less than £2000 (or $4000) the simplest method of payment is through paypal, which is an independent and secure method of payment (the links to the paypal shopping cart are within the payment instructions). Alternatively for larger amounts (more than £2000) then a direct wired transfer is possible. Please email us for information.
7. I would like to advertise, but my region is not currently covered, what should I do ? If you would like to advertise and your region isn't currently monitored, then contact us and we'll try and add it in.
- All advert orders are subject to approval. We have the right to refuse service
- You must have the legal authority to promote the website and company to which for your submitted advert. You must also have the legal authority to use the image that you submit for the advert.
- All submitted images must be the exact size for your current purchase (size in pixels).
- All submitted images must be in either .jpg or .png formats.
- All submitted urls must be valid, begin with "http://" and cannot point to email addresses or ftp sites.
- All submitted email addresses must be valid.
- Once your advert and associated information (links and email address) have been submitted, you will only be able to change the details by paying an administrative fee of $10 (£5).
- Your funds used to pay for your advert will need to be fully cleared before your advert will appear.
- Once your funds have cleared in our account, and your advert image and link have been accepted, and we have confirmed that your chosen location or advert type is available, then you will be sent a email confirmation. Your advert will appear within 48 hours of the email being sent.
- If your advert and links are published on these webpages, you will not be eligable for a refund.
- We do not support websites that promote obscene/mature, offensive, hateful, or illegal subject matter to be determined at our discretion. Should the content of a website change after an advert has become active, then we reserve the right to remove the advert and allow you time to correct the infraction. Should you not correct this within 20 days of the adverts removal, then your advert will be permanently removed and you will not be entitled to a refund. We will not be liable for any loss of earnings and/or website traffic during any such time.
- As with all websites, invariably there will be occassional times when the site is unavailable due to maintainance. We are not liable for loss of earnings and/or website traffic during these times.
- The data displayed on this website are model outputs which are seeded using datasets provided by external agencies. Any interuption in the supply of these external datasets may cause the updates on this website to cease. This situation would be outside of our control. We cannot be held responsible for this loss in data supply and/or any resulting loss in website traffic.
- We cannot guarantee the existence of this website. We will notify all advertising customers should we have prior warning of any prolonged period of downtime. We are not liable for loss of earnings and/or website traffic should, for whatever reason, the divegenie.com website become unavailable or inaccessible.
